Sardinia is a beautiful island. Those seeking relaxation enjoy a wonderful beach holiday here, while adventurers can experience plenty of challenging activities. Until 2016, Sardinia had 8 provinces. However, a reorganization took place in 2016, ratified by Regional Law No. 2 of 4 February 2016. The former provinces of Cagliari, Carbonia-Iglesias, Medio Campidano, Olbia-Tempio, and Ogliastra were abolished, and Sardinia is now divided into 5 new provinces, namely Metropolis. Cagliari (Citta Metropolitana di Cagliari, CA), Nuoro (NOW), Oristano (OR), Sassari (SS) and South Sardinia (SU).

The capital of Sardinia is located in the eponymous province of Metropolis Cagliari. The city has much to offer. From small shopping streets to impressive churches, and from a vibrant nightlife to beautiful beaches. You won't get bored easily in Cagliari! view more
The province of Sud Sardegna covers the area of the former provinces of Media Campidano, Carbonia Iglesias, and a part of the former province of Cagliari, in the south of the island. Discover South Sardinia here.
Nuoro is situated on the east coast of Sardinia, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The former province of Ogliastra has been added to the new province of Nuoro. With its rural character and limited industrialization, this is perhaps one of the most beautiful provinces on the island. view more
The former province of Olbia-Tempio, together with Sassari, forms the new province of Sassari. The province is located on the northern side of Sardinia. Here you will find an extensive coastline, so it is Sardinia through and through! See more here
The province of Oristano is located on the west coast of Sardinia. Oristano is a sparsely populated province and is known for its beautiful archaeological sites, nature, and beaches. view more here

Sardinia feels like another world within Italy. You will find snow-white beaches, turquoise bays that rival the Maldives, and a rugged interior with quiet villages and centuries-old traditions. Sardinian cuisine is pure and flavorful, with dishes such as porceddu (grilled suckling pig), fresh pecorino, and local wines that you can only taste here. Here, you wake up to the sound of the sea, have lunch under the pine trees, and end the day on a terrace overlooking a sunset you won't soon forget. Sardinia is peace, space, and beauty all in one.

The best time to visit Sardinia is from May through October. In spring (May-June), nature is at its most beautiful: fragrant flowers, mild temperatures, and quiet beaches. July and August are the warmest months, perfect for a true sun, sea, and sand holiday. During this time, the island is also buzzing with atmosphere and festivals. In September and October, the climate is still wonderfully mild, the sea has warmed up, and the pace is a bit slower again. Ideal for couples, families with young children, or those who want to travel away from the crowds.

Sardinia is much more than just beaches. Visit the colorful town of Bosa with its picturesque houses, wander through the historic center of Alghero, or discover the mysterious nuraghi: prehistoric towers found only here. The Costa Smeralda is famous for its luxury and beauty, but the lesser-known south also offers stunning beaches and tranquil coves. For nature lovers, there are hiking trails in the Gennargentu mountains, and for adventurers, you can take a boat trip to hidden caves and islets. And above all, don't forget to visit a local market where you can taste Sardinia in every bite.
Of course! If you travel to an Italian island by car, the holiday feeling often starts on the boat. Think of the wind in your hair, the view of the coastline, and perhaps even an espresso on the deck.
