Over the past twenty years, Sicily has increasingly opened up to international tourism, and its most typical and characteristic products are becoming increasingly well-known around the world. Lucia has a number of the most famous island delicacies Listed for you that you definitely shouldn't miss during your visit to this beautiful island.
At the top of the list is granita, a long-lasting delight for your palate, especially in the summer. Although slightly frozen, you can enjoy granita in all seasons. Granita is a cold dessert made from water and sugar and flavored with lemon juice, coffee, almond, or pistachio. In the summer months, it is also made with various types of fruit such as melon, red mulberry, strawberry, peach, etc. Granita has the consistency of a snowflake and is served with a warm brioche (soft, sweet bread roll) and a Tuppo (a small hat). The cannolo is famous all over the world; it is the symbol of sweet Sicilian pastry. You will find them in all Italian patisseries, but these have nothing to do with the cannoli you taste in Sicily. So forget your diet and try this delicacy, made with very simple ingredients but extraordinarily tastyIt is actually a dessert consisting of a tube-shaped, unsweetened, fried, crispy dough that is completely filled inside with very fresh sheep and/or goat ricotta (a very soft and creamy cheese) sweetened with powdered sugar and decorated with almonds, chopped pistachios, and/or candied fruit. They come in various flavors, the best known of which is the chocolate or pistachio version.

Another 'must-have' when you are in Catania is HORSE MEAT. You eat it mainly in the area around the Castello Ursino and along the picturesque and popular Via Plebiscito in the city center. The meat is roasted outdoors here and can then be eaten in simple slices, as meatballs, or as the typical horse meat sandwich!
Finally, two more specialties from Palermo. First, the typical 'SFINCIONE', a kind of thick and soft pizza topped with tomato sauce, onion, spicy cheese, olive oil, and anchovies, and last but not least, the 'PANELLE', which vegans can also enjoy. These are a type of small pancake made from chickpea flour, which are eaten with sesame rolls.
