Since 1987 (the International Year of the Environment), the FEE (International Organisation for Environmental Education) has issued a new list of “Blue Flag” (Bandiera Blu) beaches every year. The Blue Flag is an exclusive distinction awarded annually to clean beaches. The symbol is a Blue Flag with the FEE logo. The Blue Flag focuses on sustainable care for water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management, safety, and service provision.
The Blue Flag is awarded to more than 3500 beaches and marinas in over 46 countries worldwide.

Lucca Province
Massa-Carrara
The beaches of Versilia stretch from Forte dei Marmi to Viareggio. They are wide, long sandy beaches, usually filled with sun loungers and parasols provided by beach bars. There are often changing rooms, showers, and various services and dining options as well. In the summer, there is plenty of evening entertainment and a vibrant nightlife—it is a place to see and be seen!
Pisa
The beaches become somewhat narrower here, and some sections are lined with pine trees. Marina di Pisa is suitable for families with children, partly because the current is not as strong here.
Grosseto
The Maremma is a beautiful region and also has beautiful beaches. Long sandy beaches, but also rocky sections. Visit, for example, the beaches of Punta Ala near Follonica or the pebble beach of Cala Piccola near Monte Argentario, nestled between the rocks, with crystal-clear water. Take a look at Villa Open of Agriturismo La Maremma.
