Walking and Hiking in Italy

Experience Italy by walking and hiking

Experience an active holiday in Italy. The rolling hills, pine and chestnut forests, vineyards, olive groves, and medieval villages form the backdrop for a true hiker's paradise.

Italy is an excellent destination for a walking holiday. Hike through the mountains in Northern Italy, the Tuscan hills, or walk along the coast; Italy offers something for everyone. We share our tips by region.

Emilia-Romagna

Emilia-Romagna is one of the greenest regions of Italy and stretches from the Apennines to the Adriatic coast. The hills of the Apennines offer many possibilities, including numerous hiking trails, and in the summer, these can be combined with a visit to one of the many adventure parks the region has to offer. Closer to the sea, you can walk, jog, or hike through the pine forests on the shores of Ravenna or visit the Po Delta Park near Cervia , a true paradise for birdwatchers.

Lazio

Lazio is the region of paths: villages and landscapes are connected by a network of trails where “slow” and “outdoor” tourism take center stage. Many of the roads are ancient pilgrimage routes interwoven around Rome. One of the most famous is the Via Francignena. This is the medieval road that connected Canterbury in England with Rome. No other road in Europe was as important for trade and the exchange of art and culture as the Via Francignena. Today, it is primarily a very varied hiking route.

Le Marche

Most hiking trails in Le Marche can be found at the foot of the Sibillini Mountains (located in Umbria and Le Marche). However, there are also many options around the coast; for instance, in Parco San Bartolo near Pesaro, you can take several hikes offering views of the sea on one side and the valleys on the other. Along the way, you will pass through several villages that are certainly worth a stop. During the summer months, you can descend to the sea for a refreshing dip during your hike.
