Flying to Sardinia

With three international airports and economic flights from all the main European cities you can easily find your flight to Sardinia! Here you can find all you need to know about flying to Sardinia.

Flights to Sardinia

Sardinia has three international airports to choose from. Depending on your preferences you can choose between Cagliari Elmas airport or Alghero Fertilia Airport or Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport. No matter what you final destination will be, the airports are well connected with the rest of the island!

Airports in Sardinia

South Sardinia: Cagliari-Elmas Airport (CAG)

This is the busiest international airport in Sardinia, and is located in the town of Elmas, 7 kms from Cagliari. From the airport you can be in the centre of Cagliari in 10/15 minutes. You can easily reach Cagliari by bus or by taxi or rent a car at the airport! If your accommodation is not near Cagliari, the airport has its own train station from where you can take a train to all the main cities in Sardinia. Or you can opt for one of the coaches that wait outside of the airport. All the main flight operators serve Cagliari’s airport: Alitalia, Ryanair, KLM, etc…

North Sardinia: Alghero-Fertilia Airport (Riviera del Corallo)   (AHO)

IThe airport is located in the town of Fertilia in the northwest of Sardinia, only 12 km from Alghero city. You can fly directly to Alghero from all the main European airports, and while it is a smaller airport than Cagliari it is served by all the main operators. You can also easily reach Alghero’s city centre by bus, taxi, or rental car. Alghero is not connected to the rest of the island by railroads, but you can travel by bus to all the main cities in Sardinia buying the tickets online or at the airport and then taking one of the busses that wait outside of the airport.

North Sardinia: Olbia-Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB)

Olbia is the third international airport in Sardinia and is located in the northeast part of the island, only 3 km far from the city of Olbia. This airport, known as “Olbia Costa Smeralda” was built specifically for the tourists visiting the exclusive Costa Smeralda, one of the most renowned luxury destinations in Europe. The airport is connected by bus and taxi to the city of Olbia, and you can also rent a car to reach any destination in Sardinia.

Choose the airport closest to your accommodation. For example, Cagliari is located in the south and Alghero in the northwest of Sardinia and Olbia’s airport is located in the northeast. You found a convenient flight to an airport far from your destination? That is not a problem, you can rent a car at the airport and enjoy the Sardinian landscape on your way! The distances are not a problem: for example, the longest road trip possible, from Olbia to Cagliari only takes 3 hours by car, and you will never find too much traffic on the way!
