Holidays to Sardinia with the kids

Sardinia is ideal for traveling with children. There are of course countless beaches but also fun attractions to choose from. We made a small selection of places that are fun for children (and secretly just as fun for adults ...).

Holidays to Sardinia with the kids

Grotte di Nettuno

In Alghero you will find impressive limestone caves that are open to the public. You get there by joining a boat tour in Alghero’s touristic harbour or driving there by car. It is also possible to reach the caves walking up the “goat stairs”: of 655 steps carved out of the rock (if the kids are not too small) with a guide. You can also find more information on the Grotte di Nettuno website .

Trenino Verde

Train enthusiasts enjoy a right on the Trenino Verde, a steam train that travels through the beautiful Sardinian countryside. The train follows four different routes, all connecting popular tourist hotspots: Mandas- Arbatax , Macomer - Bosa Marina, Sassari - Palau and Isili - Sorgono. One of the best ways to discover Sardinia. Note: these trains are a tourist attraction and so only run during the high season.

Water park

Sardinia has several water parks.

  • Aquadream: a small park, especially nice for families with small children, located in Baja Sardinia in the northeast of the island.
  • Water Paradise: located in Porto Torrest, in the northwest of Sardinia.
  • Acqua Fantasy: in the beautiful locality of Trinità d’Agultu.
  • BluFan: in the south on the island , near Cagliari, this big water park has fun slides and a wave pool.
  • Diverland: located in Quartucciu, near Cagliari, this park has many slides, but is especially suitable for older children from 1.50 cm.
  • Splash Aquapark: located in Alghero near the beach of Maria Pia, on the sea.

The parks are usually open from June to September. Please note that in some parks it is customary to wear a swimming cap while swimming and that there are requirements regarding a minimum height for the various attractions and slides, good to check this in advance to avoid disappointments.

To the beach

The island’s main attraction: the sandy beaches with clear waters. In the north you will mainly find long sandy beaches, while in the south there are more small coves and often lie in a bay. Often, the water is shallow and calm and therefore more suitable for small children. Read more about the beaches of Sardinia.

Sardegna in miniature

An amusement park about Sardinia. All well-known attractions are reviewed here on an area of %u200B%u200B30,000 m2. You can also walk through the botanical garden, visit the dinosaur park and the planetarium, or take a boat trip with an electrically powered boat. The park is open almost all year round (only closed from mid-January to mid-February), making Sardegna in Miniatura a good option for a fun day with the kids, even outside the high season.

Parco Avventura Le Ragnatele

A beautiful climbing park for all ages located in the natural reserve of Porto Conte, about 7 km from Alghero, not far from the famous beach of Le Bombarde. The park has 8 different routes with different levels of difficulty, red, green, yellow and green plus for adults (arm height from 145cm; orange, blue, red and pink for children (arm height of 120cm). There is also a BBQ area, a bar, toilet, and playground available From June to the end of September, the park is open daily from 10 am to 8 pm.

Sardinia dolphin watching and snorkeling

Educational and fun tours, also for children (from 2/3 years), that you can join from the port of Alghero with Progetto Natura. Under the guidance of marine biologists, who can tell you everything about the dolphins, but also about all kinds of other aquatic animals. The first hours of the trip are dedicated to the dolphins in their natural environment (no guarantee to see them, +/- 80% chance) in the second section there is an opportunity to swim in the clear waters of Sardinia and go on a snorkelling adventure, even with indications of a guide. Snacks and aperitif included. You could not see any dolphin? No worries, you will receive a link to download photos of them, as a souvenir that Progetto Natura offers to the tourists.

Possible from June to October, price adults € 37 – children up to 12 years € 25.

Snorkelling at the island of Tavolara

Tavolara is an uninhabited island off the coast of Sardinia, in front of Porto San Paolo, on the northeast side of the island near Olbia. It is one of the best places in Sardinia for snorkelling, an easy activity that can be also enjoyed with the kids. Tavolara can be reached by ferry boat from resp. Porto San Paolo (the shortest route, approx. 20 minutes), from Olbia (approx. 1 hour) and from Golfo Aranci (approx. 1.5 hours).

You can of course also rent a boat or a kayak (with older children), for example form here

The northern part of the island is not accessible, as this is military zone. The other part is for tourists and offers a nice beach, crystal clear water and a small restaurant / bar. The island is a protected nature reserve, and it is possible to have excursion to the top of the island’s mountain. Children and adults can take a walk on the island, via a marked trail, which starts at the information point. The path is closed with fences and there are colorful information boards that allow you to learn more about life and nature on the island. A wonderful way to spend a day with the kids!
