Holidays in Alghero, Sardinia

Among the most popular destinations in Sardinia, Alghero is one of the places that you cannot miss during your holidays in Sardinia. Alghero is quite different from the other towns due to the influence of medieval Aragonese Spanish rule: Alghero's dialect is a form of ancient Catalan language, and the local cuisine, architecture, and culture will remind you of Catalunya.

Alghero has an old, picturesque center with narrow cobbled streets full of handicrafts shops, lively bars and restaurants, and colorful houses. The Old City walls and touristic harbor are perfect for a nice walk while enjoying the cool sea breeze.

You can take a boat for a guided tour from the historic harbor to the spectacular cliffs of Capo Caccia and the Caves of Neptune (Grotte Di Nettuno). In Capo Caccia, you can take the scenic Goat Stairs (Escala del Cabirol, in the local dialect), 656 steps that will bring you from the top of the cliff to the entrance of the Caves.

Near Alghero, you can find Le Bombarde, a beautiful sandy beach with bars, restaurants, and beach equipment rentals. About an hour's drive from Alghero in the fishing village of Stintino where you will find the most beautiful beach in Italy, La Pelosa.

Alghero is one of the best places to see in Sardinia. There is a bit for everybody: perfect for a beach holiday with your family, a romantic escape with your loved one, or a fun holiday with friends.
